Tim and I went to Crater Lake Aug 2nd - it was sweet.
This lake is as deep as a mountain. The deepest lake in the US. Its
actually a vocano (Mt Manzama) that errupted and then colapsed
on itself. slowly it filled and reached an equilibrium. theres a little
island in the lake that is a volcanic vent (its on the left in the
picture) and there is a crazy road that we drove around the
perimeter.
this ballzy ass chipmunk ran
accross our laps - twice!
he even hung out on Tim's lap
for a moment looking for grub.
evidently the tourists on Crater
Lake feed em.
our trip began with one night in a yurt on the Rogue River...
the Oregon lotto bought a bunch of yurts and put them in parks around the
state. you can rent them real cheap. they are pretty neat.
this is the Rogue river, or at least one picture of it. i thought this was a cute little mini waterfall

this is the inside of the yurt - there is a cute skylight at the top.... a bunk bed and a table and a futon... pretty neat eh?

we had an amazing view front the door of the tent.
this is our sweet campsite and timmy choppin wood
and this is a picture of a herron eatting in the lake, it was hard to get up close

the water in Diamond lake was drained 8ft.
ignorance is bliss. tim and i camped out with no neighbors (at the height of tourist time) and there was a nice
beach that went around the perimeter of the lake. it was simply enchanting. we loved every minute of it. the
wild-life, the amazing views, the stunning camp-site.
as we left the camp host educated us about these fish called Chubs that are sold as live bait to the fishermen.
Diamond lake is a renouned place for fisherment to vacation - campgrounds surround the entire perimeter and
there are trout and whatnot to fish for, boat ramps for accessibility and boats for rent as well (we got one in the
afternoon and had a good time checking out the lake and the amazing views). Unfortunately the Chubs have
thrived in the lake and grown dramatically in population. they effectively have turned the ecosystem
upside-down and the algea is out of control. the water is toxic, the only thing that is surviving (and thriving) are
the Chubs.
So this year the lake was drained, the fish are being removed, and the ecosystem is being rebuilt with newly
stocked trout from the local hatchery. the lake had become so toxic that it was closed ealier this summer.

this is the fattest squirl i have ever
seen. she must have been pregnant.
but she definitely was eatting chips.
we found her at a rest-stop on I-5
we camped out next on Diamond Lake (just N. of Crater Lake)
this is the amazing $27 tent. such a beauty. it has a wind guard and an awning and everything. and only $27. i just can't get over it.
